Why are my tape-in extensions sticky?
Chances are, you have had your tape-ins for about 6 weeks and you are starting to feel a little sticky. Unfortunately, this is totally normal and it is the only con of tape-in extensions (in my opinion).
Why do tape-ins get sticky?
Some pieces will be stickier than normal depending on the part of your head, the amount of oil your hair produces, how much heat you have applied to it, or how often you wash your hair. All of these factors play a huge role in that, but I think heat is the main culprit that feeds into the stickiness!
Pro tip from my stylist: Be extremely sensitive to the amount of heat you apply to the tops of your extensions. Hold the blowdryer an inch off of the inside of your forearm. If it’s too hot, it is too hot for your hair extensions and hair in general.
How to take sticky tape-in extensions out (without ripping your hair out)
You might not want to go to your hair stylist to get them taken out because they charge or simply because they are driving you insane.
There is a REALLY EASY FIX for this. Buy this tape residue remover and follow the instructions on the back of the bottle. I used this 2-step removal system and it rocked my world!
It is SO simple and they will slip right out.
When is it normal for tape-ins to get sticky?
Depending on the tape your hairstylist uses, this may happen earlier than 6 weeks, or a little after six weeks. This is completely normal
The tape that is used on the extensions is meant to be flexible so it doesn’t damage your hair. If done correctly, and removed correctly, your hair won’t be damaged, even though the sticky glue is super annoying.
