5 Things Every Mom Should Have on Hand to Crush a Cold or Flu
5 Things Every Mom Should Have on Hand to Crush a Cold or Flu
If you’re a mom, you know sickness in the house rarely happens one person at a time. One kid gets it, then the other, then somehow you’re the last one standing trying to keep everyone alive while also catching it yourself.
Over the years I’ve learned one thing: having the right things on hand before the sickness hits makes all the difference.
These are the five things I always try to keep stocked during cold and flu season.

1. Genexa Cold Crush or Flu Crush
When someone starts getting that “uh oh” feeling, this is usually the first thing I grab.
Genexa Cold Crush and Flu Crush are homeopathic tablets that dissolve under your tongue. I try to start them as early as possible, and I feel like they help shorten illnesses if we catch things early.
I keep both versions in our medicine cabinet so we’re ready either way.
2. A Humidifier (Honestly Non-Negotiable)
If you aren’t running a humidifier during cold season, start.
Humidifiers help with:
congestion
coughs
dry throats
irritated sinuses
We run a normal humidifier most nights in the winter, but when someone is really sick I bring out this more heavy-duty one. It puts out way more moisture and helps overnight coughing a lot.
3. Epsom Salt for Body Aches
For me, body aches are the worst part of a cold or flu.
Epsom salt baths help more than I expect them to, especially before bed. The biggest trick is just having it already in the house so you’re not asking someone to run to the store when you feel terrible.
4. Beekeeper’s Naturals Nasal Spray
This has become a staple in our house.
It helps clear things out when congestion starts, and I’ve also used it preventatively if everyone around us is getting sick.
5. A Nebulizer (Or Two)
This is one of those things you don’t think you need until you really need it.
You can run regular saline through it for congestion and irritated airways. And if someone gets a tougher illness, a doctor can prescribe albuterol to use in the same machine.
Having one already on hand has saved us more than once. A doctor told me not to get one from urgent care/the hospital because they are so much more expensive.
What are some other non-negotiables for your family?
